The Handicap competition finals were contested at CitySpace in Sunderland today bringing the 2023/24 TyneMet Basketball season to a close.
The Plate Final saw the Northumbrian NST Nomads (Division 3) take on a CSSC Hurricanes (Division 2) team who they beat earlier in the competition. This time it would be CSSC who would emerge a narrow victor at the final buzzer 102 v 96. Top scorer for CSSC was Shaquille Freeman with 15 Points followed by Dale Nielsen on 14. while Ben Justice top scored for NST Nomads with 11 followed by Alex Cook and Marc Crook on 8 points each.
The MVPs for the Plate Final were Shaquille Freeman for CSSC and Ben Justice for the NST Nomads.
The Cup final followed where the Northumbrian Nomads (Division 2) went up against the Newcastle Vikings (Division 1) both teams having players missing for this final. The score remained close for the first 3 quarters but at the start of the 4th the Vikings started to turn the screw on the Nomads and closed the gap. The Nomads regrouped and ended up the victors 118 v 102. Top scorers for the Nomads were Jerome Joseph with 28 points followed by George Hartshorne on 23 and Alex Parr on 21. For the Vikings Ben Hogg lead all scorers with 27 points followed by Devon Kosoko on 17, Alex Iredia on 15.
